Churchwardens' Report to the Annual General Meeting
19 March 2006 Away weekend Early in the year, we did a "debriefing of the 2005 Away Weekend, including issues of (non)- participation and behaviour. We suggested a few guidelines might be drawn up for 2006 concerning noise, play areas, "lights out", etc. Can this be done for 2006?? Role of wardens With Mark being new to the job, we felt it was necessary to clarify just what the wardens' role is and is not– since the Anglican guidelines are vague to say the least. A role description has since been prepared and will be incorporated in the church handbook (see next point). Church handbook It was suggested by Mark that we should draw up a handbook, to be kept up to date by the wardens, including basic information about who we are (our statutes, for instance), general guidelines, procedures for council, role descriptions, application forms, etc. Some of this material could then be incorporated in the "welcome pack" we hope to put together for newcomers. A (very small) start has been made on this, and council has recently taken up the question with new determination. This will be one of the wardens' goals for the next year. Budget With so many new projects on the horizon in 2005-2006, we felt, along with council, the need for a clear budget for each area of spending – investment, ministry, etc. This would give the treasurer and council a solid basis for allocating resources and possibly prioritising spending if we fall short of our targets. This has now been done. We wish to thank Richard, our Treasurer, and the members of the finance committee for their hard work – and the Lord for His provision. Apartment Nothing major has been done on the apartment this year, though the tiles need to be replaced. Such items need to be included in the church's budget. We did stress the need for the wardens to know what is on the agenda of meetings of the "copropriété" and for them to keep the minutes of such meetings. Technically, the "Association de l'Eglise Anglicane" owns the apartment and should therefore be represented. Again, "technically", the president of the association (currently Alison Coulavin) should vote on its behalf… This matter needs to be clarified. Prayer We felt there should be an emphasis on prayer as from the autumn, in services, small groups, the prayer chain, prayer partners, and through the setting up of a prayer group following Sunday services. Also there is a need for more prayer at council meetings, especially when we reach deadlock situations and need to seek God's guidance. Chaplain's timetable Early in the year, we were looking forward to welcoming the Diehls from the US to help with the work of the chaplaincy. So far this has not happened. For the longer term, it has been suggested we should consider the possibility of employing an assistant worker for the chaplaincy. This means we need to look more closely at the chaplain's timetable to see which areas need more attention. We also discussed:

Lastly We once again wish to thank Stephen and Marian, Alan and Val for all the hard work they do, Richard our treasurer, Elizabeth our secretary, the members of the church council, and all of your who contribute in so many ways to the life of our church. David Bailey – Mark Lewis |
