AGM Report – 19th March 2006 Sally Mc Namee – International Student Worker
Here is an outline of the main areas of work I have been involved in since arriving in September 2005.
English-speaking Christian Students
We meet to read the Bible and pray for one another (currently on a Monday afternoon). We have just finished studying Mark's gospel, and will continue with some studies on 'Evangelism, Doctrine and Apologetics', with the aim of motivating and equipping students for effective evangelism in the student world both here and in their home countries.
Tara Smart and Andrew Cumings are involved with this work. Some students are also linked with other church members for hospitality.
International Students
The International Student Hospitality Scheme seeks to link International Students with hosts from St Marc's. Hosts offer one or two meals a term and serve as a bridge between the student and church.
I meet with 2 International Students individually for Bible Study and English-Teaching.
GBU (Groupes Bibliques Universitaires – the IFES Christian Union that meets on campus)
There are currently around 25/30 regular members of the GBU. I meet with them once or twice a week for planning, prayer, and Bible discussions. This term they will re-launch an outreach stand on campus, which I'm hoping to be involved with. This could be a good way to reach more International Students as well.
I read the Bible once a week with one of the 'responsables'.
Resources
I am writing up my bible studies on Mark's Gospel, a Bible Overview (in simple English), and an Evangelism course. These could be used by St Marc's in the future, either with students or other groups.
Ways in which you can get involved
Handing out Hospitality Forms to International Students on campus (between 12.15 and 13.15).
Offering hospitality to students at St Marc's.
Offering to be a host for an International Student (We need both English, and French-speaking hosts).
Praying for the work of the GBU on campus, especially Paul, Aurelie, Aurore and Nathalie who lead the group.
