On: Wednesday 14th june at 20h00 At: St Marc's Church Centre

Present: Stephen Coffin (Chaplain), Alan Golton (Assistant Chaplain), David Bailey (Churchwarden), Mark Lewis (Churchwarden), Alison Coulavin (Synod Rep), Val Golton (Synod Rep), Elizabeth Cherhal (Secretary), Richard Sheppard (Treasurer),Jon Bateman.
Excused: Marie Colbert, Penny Vincent-Sweet, Gloria Ugonwali

Minutes:

24. Prayers and Apologies (please inform Chaplain or Secretary)

25. Approval of last meeting's minutes and any matter arising from these (& not otherwise on the agenda)
The minutes were approved.
Matters Arising were:
  • Item #13 American christian who had been put into contact with us via ICS: he will be going elsewhere
  • Item #19: Let us not forget to get the bookmarks printed !
  • Item #21: Red room decoration is ongoing
  • Item #21: Statement of faith: in the future, candidates for the council will be asked to read and sign it before standing. Jon thought the references to the Anglican church somewhat amusing, and that people should mainly be required to recognise Jesus as their saviour.
  • Item #21: Evening study/discussion of Islam. Alan and Val have the material, and suggest we choose a date. The talk is quite long and will take 4 hours. Probably there should be two subsequent meetings. Alison has a very good book on the subject, and is willing to lend it to anyone.

26. "Recognition programme" (item #18 on last minutes).
It was suggested that the people to whom we want to show recognition be (regularly) invited to come up and get a card and be prayed for.

27. Treasurer's report
At the moment we are covering standard expenses, the barchart should be shown in church before the end of June. Stephen and Richard have agreed to donate 300E to Champfleuri, following a message from Blain. The budget will go down once Sally’s apartment rent is stopped.

28. Proposal to include prayer for healing as a major feature of 5th Sundays of the month.
Stephen and Alan had discussed this idea after the away weekend. It would be a service focussed on healing, where people could come forward for prayer, some singing could go on the while. Alternatively, people could raise their hands, and others could group round them. It was also suggested that prayer ministry take place at the front rather than at the back. The back is not a very good place. It was objected that the front would collide with people wanting to dismantle the sound system.

29. Feedback on John Pavey's presentation of International Church Grenoble
An exchange of information and points of view ensued:
  • We know that John Pavey is not an Anglican, but what church does he belong to ?
(hypothesis: perhaps he doesn’t think that is important, what is important is bringing people to Christ).
  • How is the new church going to be managed financially and wrt the building etc…?
(the new church will be a part of CEP).
  • The stress put on partnership seemed a bit exaggerated. For instance 75% of the people attending the women’s breakfasts are from St Marc’s.
  • It is important to plug into the new church as it goes along and not watch it pass
In addition to this exchange, Stephen reported that Howard and Dona Diehl should be coming on September 15th. We should pray that their visas and trip all work out well.
30. Pastoral Care
Stephen proposed a letter which should be given to each member of the congregation. About a quarter of the congregation attends (or has attended) home groups or adult Sunday school. People will be asked if they would be willing to join, host or lead a group. (Hosting is not the same as leading). It was suggested that the last paragraph in the proposed letter be put first, and that something be added about using spiritual gifts, with perhaps a quotation from the ” purpose driven life”. The contents of the welcome pack were also reviewed, as it obviously needs updating. It was suggested we add Val for the scripture union notes, and also some information on giving.

31. Past & future events
  • BBQ: this has had to be cancelled due to ill health. Pray for John and Nell !
  • Meal: only one member of catering committee on 1st Sun in July: a picnic is proposed.
  • 15th August: proposed visit to Stephen and Marian’s home in Maurienne.
  • In October we will receive a visit from the assistant Bishop.
  • The events committee have planned 2 evenings (dates?): Scottish dancing and “fish and bingo”.
  • The carol service will take place on the 17th December.

32. Any other matters (please inform Elizabeth (Secretary) or Stephen (Chairman) beforehand of items you wish to raise, if possible.
  • Alison raised the point of readings: If the reading is taken from another version of the bible than the NIV, the video projector should display that version also. It was suggested we put up on the video projector the response “Thanks be to God”, after the reading too.

33. Closing Prayer
The meeting closed in prayer.
