Pastoral Care – One to One Relationships

Welcome people to Sunday Services

  • Introduce them to someone who might have something in common
  • Nationality; workplace; age group; family situation; etc.
  • Ask newcomers to fill in a welcome card
  • Pass these to Chaplain for follow-up
  • Phone call or e-mail to connect and see how we can take things on
  • Encourage newcomers to join a home group
  • Connect people to others with similar life situations as appropriate

Monthly Church meal

  • Encourage committed Church members to vary who they sit with and to
  • Make connections with people they don’t yet know
  • Pass on to Church leaders needs, interests, etc of which they become aware

Home groups

  • Encourage everyone to join a home group
  • See these as opportunities for building relationships which go on beyond meetings
  • Ask group leaders to pass on to Church leaders needs, interests, etc of which they become aware
  • Encourage group members to meet at other times
  • Pray for one another in home groups

Sunday prayer time

  • Offer every week the opportunity for personal prayer
  • Encourage people to take advantage of this
  • Those who pray for others should pass on to Church leaders needs, with permission of those being prayed for

Pastoral care group

  • Publicise the existence of this group
  • Encourage everyone to contact this group about any needs of which they become aware
  • Seek those with time & gifts for contacting others to offer a listening ear
  • They should liaise with a list of Church members (including what home group they are in)
  • This to see everyone is being contacted periodically to ensure they feel cared about & can share needs, talk, etc.
  • They should pass on to Church leaders needs, etc of which they become aware
  • This should include need for action (visit, shopping, advice, etc.)

  • Seek and “train” those with time & gifts for praying for & counselling others
  • Church leaders should pass on to them appropriate needs
  • They would then contact people by phone &/or arrange to visit them
  • They should pass back to Chaplain any issues they feel appropriate

Teaching on Sundays & in home groups needed to explain this & encourage involvement

  • September teaching on our Church’s “logo”
  • Pre-Easter course “Building Relationships With God’s Love”
