ST MARC’S YOUTH GROUP EXISTS TO:

  • C CONNNECT others to CHRIST
  • H HELP the world
  • A ACCEPT and ADORE Christ
  • N NURTURE each other
  • G as we GROW in Him
  • E And ENGAGE ourselves actively in His Plan.

We aim to provide the group with a balanced program of worship, discipleship, evangelism, fellowship and service, which is summed up in our purpose statement above. We hope to inspire our friends, each other, and ourselves, to embrace change in Christ Jesus.

SMALL GROUPS Small groups meet before the Sunday worship service, from 9.45-10.45am. Their purpose is to promote fellowship and spiritual bonding between groups of 4 or 5 youth group members, in a small group environment. (This is the main place where we NURTURE EACH OTHER). Small groups should also have the function of cell church ministry, with the goal of reproducing/dividing on a regular basis. They are an ideal environment for older members to receive leadership training.

SUNDAY SCHOOL From 11am-12 noon, we meet for Sunday school time. This is the time when the group join together to learn from the bible, in two age groups, 11-14 years and 14-18 years. (We GROW IN HIM) Curriculum varies, and is partly based on questions put forward by group members, and partly on subjects which the adult leaders ( Claire Naylor, Janetta & Lionel Vacherand, Lucy & Dave Kolar, Jennifer Bateman, Chris & Dan Wilhelm) feel should be covered. Every second Sunday of the month is birthday Sunday, when we celebrate that month’s birthdays together with cake and drinks.

YOUTH WORSHIP SERVICE The Youth worship service is a new service that our youth group will be having once a month, on the last Sunday of the month, for the next three months, starting from April 2005. We hope that it will be popular and useful – if so, it will be starting up again after the long summer break. This new service will have 3 main goals:

  1. to worship together – to ADORE Christ. We aim to train the teenagers to lead their own worship, and they will be choosing the music
  2. This service will also be great to bring their friends along to, as are our weekends (but regular Sunday school isn’t), so it will be part of CONNECTING others to Christ.
  3. There will be a bible-based message, aimed at giving all present an opportunity to learn and GROW in Christ.

SERVICE PROJECTS – to help the world! We organize some fundraising events, where we give our time and talents to try to raise money for needy people outside our church. In the year 2004-5, we served as a group collecting food for the banque alimentaire, made and sold Christmas decorations for CITA, and cooked a special meal to raise money to help the victims of the Asian tsunami.

PRAYERFUL DEPENDENCE We acknowledge that in all this, we depend totally on our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray with the group when we meet; the teenagers have their own prayer requests e-mail system; we also benefit from a group of individuals not otherwise involved in the group who give us prayer support, for needs, forward planning, and joining with us in offering thanks.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

WEEKENDS Weekend retreats are offered, with two main goals in mind: spiritual growth and fellowship. We often open these up to friends who don’t usually attend the group. Weekends are based around a particular theme, using games, small group time, worship and message to communicate ideas.

DAY EVENTS can vary greatly, in objective and content. For example, the group has recently: • been to a reggae concert followed by a sleepover • been to a volley ball game to support the leader of a small group • spent 24 hours in fast, and then organized a meal and time of reflection together as a way of breaking the fast.

MANAGEMENT We have a group of adult leaders who work together. They meet once a quarter to feedback on past events, set goals, objectives, make concrete plans for the next three months and pray together. We try to use the different talents, availability and gifts of leaders in a complementary way, so that we all share the burden and feel the joy of serving together. TEEN LEADERSHIP GROUP exists to propose various activities and follow them through to realization. These activities will be generally chosen for the purposes of fellowship/fun, spiritual bonding and individual spiritual growth. Depending upon the activity, there will be an appropriate amount of adult input, and will provide opportunities for older members to receive leadership training. Ultimate responsibility for these events remains with the adult leadership.
