Learning to listen by Stephen Coffin

  • What lessons about listening to others can we learn from Jesus’ example?
  • How quick are you to listen compared to speaking? (see James 1v19)
  • How well do you listen to other people?
  • How can you improve at this?
  • Are there people with whom you share the deepest things of your life?
  • How can you learn to open up your life to others so they can listen better to you?

Listening to God

  • In what ways have you experienced listening to God?
  • Read 1 Kings 19v11-13. Elijah learned that God was to be heard in quiet more than drama. How does that relate to your own experience?
  • Do you make a daily “quiet time” to listen to God?
  • If not how could you schedule some quality time for this? (A daily short time is probably more important than occasional long times, though these are good too!)
  • How can you develop the kind of relationship with God in which you can be entirely open with him about what’s going on at the deepest levels of your life?
  • How can you be sure God will not reject you or think worse of you if you are open?

Listening with the bible

  • Do you have plan for reading the bible regularly, preferably daily?
  • In what ways has God “spoken” to you through the bible?
  • How can you learn to better listen to him through the bible?
  • If you’d like bible reading notes, please speak to Val Golton.
  • How have you experienced God speak to you through the bible in group study?
  • To join a group to listen to God through the bible, speak to Dante Thomas.
