St Marc’s church beliefs, as all Christian churches, are strongly rooted in the Bible, (for more information on what we believe read ICS Basis Of Faith). The Bible is made up of is the Old and New testaments. The Bible is the Word of God and is "..useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..." ( 2nd Timothy 3:16-17 ).
The 39 books of the Old Testament (OT) contain the story of God's love for mankind, from Creation through to the return of the Hebrews from exile in Babylon around 400BC. They include God's laws as He gave them to the Hebrew people. The OT allows the believer to discover God through His relationship with His people. The New Testament (NT) is a collection of 27 books. It contains Christ's teachings, the accounts of his life as told by his followers, and the beginning of his church. It outlines the basis for the Christian lifestyle today. Throughout the Bible we can read about God’s plan of redemption for all mankind and come to grasp with God’s will for our lives. Within an Anglican worship service, Scripture is read in the lessons, the Gospel (the teachings of Jesus), the Psalms (poems from the Old Testament) and other prayers. Additionally, two- thirds of our guide to worship, the Book of Common Prayer, comes directly from the Old and New Testaments. Below are a few useful links for further study of the bible, including links for daily bible study notes.
